(27th August 2026) The Human Response Project (thrp) is a simple, interactive app that aims to provide a human response to any given query.

We find ourselves surrounded by instantaneous, automated, and artificially enhanced interactions: thrp is the antidote. Thrp is slow moving, thoughtful and endlessly creative. Behind the interface is an evolving and ever-changing bank of human beings who are donating their time and energy to respond to whatever it is that you are asking. The response may not be the answer you were looking for (it may not be an answer at all), but it will be honest, creative and human-made.

Responses may take minutes, hours, days or longer. It’s an exercise in patience and delayed gratification.

The intention is to provide a creative and artistic response to each query from one or more thrp “Responders”. This could be in the form of a poem, sketch, photo, doodle, piece of music, video, spoken word or any manner of interpretation. It may also, simply, be an answer to your question.

Thrp is completely dependent upon the generosity of its Responders. We hope that it will be something that artists enjoy taking part in, for as much or as little as they like. It’s an opportunity to put intentional art out into the world as a reflection of what’s on people’s minds.

All artwork and content produced by Responders on this site is released under a Creative Commons license. This license requires that reusers give credit to the creator. It allows reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, even for commercial purposes. If others remix, adapt, or build upon the material, they must license the modified material under identical terms. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/

Become a Responder

Do you consider yourself to be a creative or artistic person?
Are you frustrated with how art is being scraped and extracted?
Are you intrigued by the notion of responding to humans with art?
Do you have a bit of time you could donate to brightening people’s lives?

If you’ve answered “yes” to any of those questions then consider becoming a thrp Responder.

The task of a Responder is to pick a question and answer it in the most artistic, human and authentic way you can muster. You can use any form of art or expression you wish. It can simply be text, it can be images or photos. We can’t currently host music or video but you can link to it.

Art doesn’t aim to answer the question, it aims to reflect the nature of the query, ourselves, the world and give us another perspective.

It goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway: this should have nothing to do with AI in any form or context. Any contribution should be your own work and something you don’t mind being release under a Creative Commons license. It can be text, video, audio, photos or images. Let’s keep it a 12A/PG-13 level, no nudity or profanity. It doesn’t have to be new, it doesn’t have to be amazing, We’re not expecting you to put more than a coffee-break worth of time in, but of course you can put in as much as you like. It will always be yours, attributed to you and you are free to withdraw it at any time.

THRP could be a brilliant way to display your talent and skills alongside your wit and humanity. However, thrp is not a discussion platform like Instagram or Threads, and doesn’t offer commentary or a way to chat with the User. It is a one-shot “Call and Response” concept which removes the potential for arguments and bad comments from bad actors. So, if you want to thrp to be a platform to attract work then please fill out your Profile with details of how someone can contact you.

I am all too aware that my following is largely made up of white males of a certain age who are fascinated by synthesizers. That’s awesome, I love you, but if you know of any other artistic people, especially if they not white men, then this test would appreciate the diversity!

But if you are a 55 year old synth guy then a five minute jam of bleeps and bloops would be just fine.

FAQs

1. Where’s the money?
   I am aware that art has value and artists need to be paid for their work. However, I don’t have any money to offer, and I’m hoping that sympathetic people might be able to donate a little time to help me with this project. I completely understand if that doesn’t work for you. There are potential avenues for income down the line but I refuse to let money be a hindrance or a driving force behind this project. THRP is driven by generosity which is so often an undervalued force for good.
2. Isn’t this just a sneaky way to train an AI on our responses?
   No, certainly not.
3. Who are you?
   I’m Robin Vincent, I’m a writer, musician and maker of content about Music Technology. robinvincent.net
4. Are you having a laugh?
   No, I genuinely believe there’s something magical in this concept, although it is entirely reliant upon the shared skills of flawed and often incompentent human beings.
5. Do I have to be anti-AI?
   No. The existance and impact of AI is complex and wide ranging, and many people find it helpful for all sorts of reasons. However, it does seem to be having a negative impact on artists and creators, and so this project is a positive reaction to that.
6. What’s the end game?
   To steal all your art and sell the site to a tech bro for billions of dollars – obviously. No. The aim is to produce a site/app that injects a small amount of humanity back into our lives. I think there’s something profound about having an artist personally respond to something you asked, with art. It could make you smile, spark ideas, change your perspective or simply feel like there’s a human response out there who cared enough to answer. There are mental health aspects, collaboration aspects, community, connection, and even the potential of work and income.
7. Can I be more involved?
   Yes, assuming this works well enough to carry forward I will be looking for people willing to help get this together. Artists, coders, creatives, bag carriers, enthusiasts – I should stress again that I have no money. If you would like to more involved or sign up as an artist/creative (are those terms interchangeable – I really don’t know – if only there was somewhere I could ask that question and get a human response!) then just let me know!
8. What’s the point again?
   The point is to find the most artistic response to any given query. Over time the community of contributors can grow, people can “like” their favourites and it becomes a sort of marketplace for creatives. People can watch content unfold on the app, follow responses over days. From the back-end, the requests come in and the team of creatives grabs something and responds to it. So you could get a 5 minute video from Gaz talking about nodes, a 4 bar loop of Amiga noises from Paulee or a picture of my dog. It’s not about answering the question, it’s about triggering a human interaction. It’s something creatives could play with in their lunch break and people could feel connected to on the understanding that it takes time, might be unexpected, and shouldn’t be taken as medical advice.
9. What’s in it for me?
   That’s a big question which will require a bit of discussion. I hope that there’s enough artistic curiosity out there to give the idea a fair shake.
10. What are the Terms and Conditions?
    THRP is built on ideas of generosity, humanity, empathy, humour and kindness. We expect any User or Responder to be kind and generous in their interactions, and never to act in a way that belittles, disrespects or harms another individual. Everyone engages with this site on their own terms and at their own risk, and while thrp cannot be held responsible for the content of the questions or the responses, we will take steps to remove offensive content and revoke access as soon as we become aware of it. I really appreciate any thought and effort you put into this. I have had a lovely bloke donating some time to build out the basic, functional structure – it’s amazing what can happen when you ask for help.
